UPDATE 5.0 m33-6 to 5.50 GEN-B

The release of the 5.55 official firmware has caused an alarm to PSP homebrew community. Many newly released games has been made to be only compatible to the 5.55 official firmware and above. Weeks had passed and still the PSP homebrew community are still waiting up to now for a release of a new Custom firmware (CFW) for 5.55 and 6.0. We are still waiting for the release from Dark Alex or the PSP Gen team. It may be hard to decrypt the new official firmwares. However with the release of the GAME DECRYPTER V2, it is now possible to play newer games like: G.I. Joe, Naruto Shippuden Akatsuki Rising, Gran Turismo and many more.

With the use of the Game Decrypter PSP gamers could now play these games that require OFW 5.55 and up using the GEN custom firmware. This tutorial will show PSP owners on how to update their PSP system to 5.50 gen-B.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
  • only patched versions of games that require 5.55 can run at 5.50 GEN-B
  • if you are using 5.50 gen-B and still unable to play the patched games please try changing the umd mode to SONY NP9660 from m33 driver.
  • ISO games that require lower firmware from 5.55 are still compatible with CFW 5.50 GEN-B.
  • almost all plugins still work with 5.50 GEN-B

HERE IS THE TUTORIAL:

1. Make sure you are using a PSP 1000 or PSP 2000 v1 and v2 only. Sorry PSP 3000 users this will not work for you. This requires a PSP with firmware of 3.71 m33 or higher.

2. Download the 5.50 GEN-A full update from mediafire.com

6. Disconnect the PSP from the computer and run the 5.50 GEN-A updater at your PSP.

7. Follow the on-screen instructions at your PSP.

8. After the update you will have a PSP system of 5.50 Gen-A

9. Now download the PSP 5.50 Gen-B update from mediafire.

Hi PreciousPSP,

I've followed your instructions and i think I've successfully updated my firmware coz it says 5.50 Gen-B FULL in the system information. My Problem is that I tried reformating mg memory stick too and now I can't see the games I used to play. I know they've been deleted while the memory stick was reformatting but even ater I tired putting them back on the Iso/games folder they won't show up on my games. How come? Please help....

PreciousPSP said...

that's easy u might have been using regular driver for the iso. that's why ir isnt loading.. enter the recovery menu and replace it with m33 driver or sony np9660

Noob101 said...

I tired it already went to recovery menu> configuration> sony np9660 but it still wont load my games. I am supposed to put the games in the folder PSP>Games right? That's what I've been doing but it would still say "there are no games". What should I do?

now that's y u r having problems! ISOs are not pasted on ms0:/PSP>Games but on ms0:/ISO if ur psp doesn't have that folder create one and paste ur ISO there.. i'm sure this would work. thanks for asking!

@mowla since you have a v2 PSP you could upgrade to 5.50 gen-B. by using chickhen, first use cfw enabler, and then after loading cfw enabler, when you are in 5.03 gen-A upgrade to 5.50 gen-A then upgrade to gen-B (just follow the links on the post for the files for 5.50 gen A & B). REMEMBER: be sure that you are on 5.03 gen-A before you run the update for 5.50 gen-A. I think you will enjoy 5.50 gen-B because it would not require you to activate chickhen everytime you put your PSP off

Thanks A billion Precious!!!
It's a semi-relieve to hear that 5.50 Gen-B will work for my PSP 2006.
However, what abt my PSP having a TA-0883 v3 motherboard and also currently my firmware resets back when I turn off the PSP (so in sleep mode all the time now).

I'm absolutely a newbie in this and have been going through a lot of sites and found that PSP 2006s with TA-0883 v3 are partially hackable and as 5.5 Gen-B is a permanent firmware, PSP 2006s will get bricked.

So, though I know you've got much better things to do than solving lousy problems as these that have been already answered many times, I'd still be very grateful if you could help me get the job done without me making any usually stupid mistakes that kills my PSP 2006 (I really want to play my ISO dumps of Marvel Alliance 2, Motorstorm and others that I have)

Just for reference, this is exactly what PSP ident shows me:

Motherbd type: Slim (02g)
Mothermd model: Ta-088 v3

PSP version: Slim v2.2

Thanks in Advance!!

oh man i'm sorry but i thought you said that you had a v2.2 motherboard but you have a v3.. NO!! DONT upgrade it. it will get bricked.. sorry to bring the bad news.. we could only hope for a solution for that in the coming months..

PreciousPSP said...

oh man.. i cant really get what ur sayin.. DO u have 2 PSPs?? 1 with a v3 mobo and 1 with a v2.. this is very important: DO NOT TRY to upgrade your PSP if it has a v3 mobo it will get bricked.. sorry man... i got u excited and u get disappointed in the end.

Thanks for the quick reply Precious. No, I just have one PSP and I laid out the details of that to you exactly as PSPident showed... so what does "PSP version: Slim v2.2" mean anyway, probly nothing that can help me, I guess unlucky guys like me are now at the mercy of the hacking community. By the way... will I be able to play Gran turismo or Fifa 10 in 5.03 MHU?

Thanks Again for your help!

hey previouspsp!

my psp system software is 3.80 m33-5 ... will i be able to upgrade to 5.50 GEN-B?

would i need any special steps for doing that or just the onez in the tutorial?

and i have one more question please, would i be able to play fifa 10 on 3.80 m33-5 or do i have to upgrade for that?

thanks!

PreciousPSP said...

@fabi yes you could follow the tutorial above. the lowest firmware that it needs is 3.71. no additional steps needed

PreciousPSP said...

@mowla just follow the steps above to upgrade to 5.50 gen-B. your firmware supports upgrade to 5.50 gen-a directly, then you could install the update for gen-b no need for pandora

Hi, I have a question to ask. I'm using 3.80 M33-5 now. say I upgrade to 5.5 gen B...will i be able to still play those games previously that I could play with my 3.80 M33-5 version? Thanks

Sorry Mr. Precious, but i would like to ask a question:

I'm currently using a psp 2000, firmware of 5.03 M33-6,

Motherbd type: Slim (02g)
Mothermd model: Ta-088 v3

PSP version: Slim v2.2

This is what PSPident 0.4 showed me of when i used the PSPident, can I upgrade my PSP to 5.50 Gen B? From the comment above i saw another guy with an exactly same motherboard as me and you warned him not to upgrade because it can brick the PSP. So what ca I do to upgrade my PSP?

Thanks in advance

hey precious.
i am asking u that when we have successfully upgraded to gen b or D.
would my save game data be lost?

Thx

PreciousPSP said...

@ben you could still play all games that work for 3.80 m33-5 and more importantly you would be able to play newer games. i suggest you update to gen-D3

@宅男阿杰 please do not upgradecoz you have a tav3 motherboard. IT WILL BRICK YOUR PSP

hi! im just new here, and i wanted to upgrade my psp, i am currently using, 5.00 m33-6 system, i want to upgrade it to 5.50gen b, i have downloaded it, but since i have read that those psp that have Ta-088 v3 motherboard, should not update it, i am wondering about two things, first, how will i know if i also have Ta-088 v3 motherboard, the bar code stating the unit model has faded already, is there any way i can know if i have that motherboard? and second thing, if ever i have that kind of motherboard and i still upgrade my psp, it will be brick right? can it still be fixed??

thanks ^_^
